The circle of MotoGP riders that could potentially triumph in 2023 is large. KTM test rider Dani Pedrosa reveals his pre-season MotoGP title favourite.
In a recent interview with DAZN, former MotoGP rider Dani Pedrosa revealed his pick for the 2023 MotoGP title favorite: Jorge Martin.
Pedrosa, who retired from racing in 2018 and is now a KTM test rider, believes that the young Spanish rider has what it takes to become a championship contender in the near future.
Jorge Martin burst onto the MotoGP scene in 2021 as a rookie riding for the Pramac Ducati team.
Despite some early struggles and injuries, Martin showed flashes of brilliance throughout the season, including a stunning pole position in Portugal and a podium finish at the Austrian Grand Prix.
Pedrosa, who himself won three World Championships during his illustrious career, spoke highly of Martin’s talent and potential.
“The favorite is undoubtedly a Ducati rider, but if I have to name one for the World Championship, I’ll say, Jorge Martin, he seemed to be the best in Sepang,” he explains.
Pedrosa, even though not being the most active rider during the official MotoGP test in Sepang still went out around the track to watch his KTM comrades try out new things. He was particularly struck by the Ducati’s cornering ability.
“I was on the track those days watching them and they looked very solid in all the corners and parts of the layout. They are in great shape because the bike feels very solid.”
Of course, the Ducati factory riders are also clear favourites. “Pecco Bagnaia is the reigning champion and will try to defend his his title, last year he won despite many mistakes. And there is Enea Bastianini, he is very determined to prove his worth.”
