Dalla Porta's Odd Mugello Situation - Sacked But Still On The Grid

Categories:   Moto2

After the French Grand Prix, the SAG Racing Team and Lorenzo Dalla Porta parted ways. In Mugello, the Italian is nevertheless part of the Moto2 grid.

In 2019, Lorenzo Dalla Porta will win the Moto3 World Championship. After three years in the ItalTrans Racing Team in Moto2, the Italian dares to switch to the SAG Racing Team.

However, next to teammate Bo Bendsneyder, he did not succeed much. While the Dutchman scored a podium for the team in Jerez, Dalla Porta has so far failed to finish higher than 19th.

After the French Grand Prix, the team and rider mutually agreed to terminate the contract.

But despite the supposed end of his 2023 World Championship season, the 2019 Moto3 World Champion will also be at the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello – Dalla Porta replacing the injured Alex Escrig.

The Italian will get another chance on the Moto2 grid and will replace Escrig for at least three Grand Prix. In the process, Dalla Porta will meet an old acquaintance – Marcos Ramirez. Together with the Spaniard, Dalla Porta started in 2019 in the Moto3 Le0pard Racing Team.

Dalla Porta is very pleased about the renewed opportunity in the Forward Racing Team. “I am very happy with this opportunity and I thank Team Forward for welcoming me as part of the team for the next three races.”

The Italian explains: “I am curious to test this new bike and I will certainly give my best. I’m ready to start at Mugello.”
