Bastianini Explains Reason For Early Retirement - Marquez to Blame?

After a collision with Marc Marquez, Enea Bastianini has to retire early from the race at the British Grand Prix. Is Marquez to blame?

Enea Bastianini drops out of the British Grand Prix after a crash. ‘La Bestia’ thinks the reason lies in a collision with Marc Marquez a few corners earlier, in which the Spaniard came to fall.

“Marc touched me at Turn 11,” Bastianini said. “In turn 15 I tried to brake, but it was impossible to stop the bike, so I went straight on.”

“Something happened to the bike after the contact with Marc,” he explained. “There is a cut in the rear tire. Probably that’s why I crashed.”

For Bastianini, it’s obvious that the contact with Marquez must have broken something on his GP23 as the early exit concludes yet another unsatisfactory race weekend for him.

Bastianini is still missing the feeling with his bike

Having spent most of the season on the sideline, last year’s championship runner-up is still trying to figure out the feeling with his new factory Ducati.

“We changed a lot to the bike to arrive for the race, to do something more. But nothing changed. The bike is so nervous so I am not relaxed on my seat.”

“We have tried a rear suspension, we tried to modify the bike, but probably we need more, something more.”

“[Something] like Pecco, because he changed last year’s bike a lot.”

Today’s race was all the more important for Bastianini. Although he had to retire early, the Italian was able to complete 16 laps, which, for him and his team will be important data that can be further used for problem analysis.

“It was important to do this race, to do 16 laps. Now I have more data to give to my team, to explain to my team.”

That he will be fighting for the top positions again very soon remains uncertain for Bastianini.

“I don’t know if I can do this in a short time. My sensation is different. [The bike] is too aggressive for me, not a good choice.”
