Augusto Fernández Reveals His 2023 MotoGP Season Goals
Augusto Fernández starts his first season in MotoGP in Portimao. The only rookie in the premier class reveals his 2023 MotoGP season goals.
After an impressive season which saw him winning the Moto2 World Championship title in 2022, Augusto Fernández joins the Tech3 GasGas MotoGP team for the new season. The Spaniard hopes to impress as the only rookie in the premier class in 2023.
While Fernández had been convincing during previous tests in Valencia and Sepang, there is still a big question mark over the Spaniard’s performance for the start of the season in Portimao.
The rookie does not have many plans for the season, as he knows how complicated it can be to get used to MotoGP.
“At the beginning it will be a learning process because, as we saw at the test in Malaysia, the riders in front of me have much more experience.”
“I was 22nd and right in front of me was the very experienced Taka Nakagami. Still, I don’t want to stay in that position for long.”
Fernández sets himself a realistic target for the 2023 season. “I don’t want to finish last,” he explains.
The 25-year-old wants to get used to the increased power as quickly as possible and is already looking in the direction of the KTM factory riders.
“I hope to be competitive quickly because I want to fight against my teammate. I also want to be able to keep up with Jack Miller and Brad Binder.”
Patience is the key
Looking back on last year’s MotoGP season and Remy Gardner’s swift relegation to World Superbike, Fernández sees himself at a crossroads and in the most important year of his career.
The Moto2 World Champion knows how much pressure there is on rookies in the extremely fast-paced MotoGP.
“I am facing the most important season of my career, which can decide the rest of my career. I think the patience I’ve had along the way to get here will help me this year. I will use that patience to continue to grow.”
