Alex Marquez has been the big surprise of the 2023 MotoGP season so far on the Ducati Desmosedici GP22, sitting fourth in the riders’ championship after four events, having finished the 2021 and 2022 seasons with LCR-Honda in disappointing final positions of 17th and 16th.

In 2023, the Spaniard is finally attacking the front again. After switching to the Ducati, everything is now possible for him.

What he is capable of, he already showed last weekend in Argentina. Marquez succeeded in drying conditions to secure the first pole position in MotoGP.

And the Spaniard wasn’t done for the weekend. While he only managed fifth place in the sprint, Marquez joined race winner Marco Bezzecchi and Johann Zarco on the Argentine podium after the feature race.

The two-time world champion shows that he hasn’t forgotten how to ride fast in his first three years in MotoGP.

The fact that the Spaniard now shows his critics what he is capable of with a competitive motorcycle makes him particularly happy. The switch from the Honda to the Ducati of the Gresini team was the right decision.

“I believe in myself and I am convinced that I made the right choice when I chose Ducati and the Gresini team. I took this option because I wanted to be on the best bike and ride in a decent team. Gresini is a decent team, they are very professional. I knew: the rest is up to me.”

Marquez is very happy with the results he has achieved so far in 2023, but sees further potential for more podium finishes.

“We’re in a constant progression, we’re improving and consistent, that’s the most positive thing about the balance after the first two events.”

Even after his third-place finish in Argentina, Marquez is thinking about ways to improve.

“Marco [Bezzecchi] and Johann [Zarco] went faster than me. So we have to look at how we can improve for the future.”
