Last week Ducati finally made clear that Enea Bastianini will ride next to Francesco Bagnaia in the factory team. Now, Bestia’s crew chief reveals why Ducati probably chose his protégé.
After months of waiting for a decision on the Ducati line-up for 2023, Enea Bastianini will be promoted from the Gresini Ducati into the red leather suits.

One of the reasons, Bestia is able to show his potential in his second year in MotoGP is his crew chief Alberto Giribuola.
Having been Andrea Dovizioso’s crew chief in his time at the factory Ducati, Giribuola is now an essential part of Bastianini’s team.
From the get-go, he saw something special in Bastianini’s riding:
“His confidence with the front, the feeling he has with the front tire in the last part of entering the corner, he can really gain a lot in comparison to the other riders.”
“I think Enea can stay at the limit of the grip without spinning the rear. He takes out the maximum in acceleration, but at the end of the race he still has 10 to 15% more compared to the others.”

But to Giribuola the most impressive thing about Bestia is his ability to develop and improve his style in order to perform well woith the given circumstances.
“Last year, sometimes there was a limit for him because he was not able to push at the maximum, like in qualifying. This year he’s able to switch when it’s time for qualifying.”
